Legacy Leaders

Students who are selected for the Legacy Leaders scholarship receive an annual award of $11,000. At this time, this scholarship cannot be combined with any other TWU scholarship. Eligibility

To apply for the Legacy Leaders, you must meet the following:

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • First-time entering freshman student
  • 3.0 minimum GPA
  • Demonstrated leadership in school and/or community
  • Pell Grant eligibility is preferred, but not required
  • Standardized test scores will not be required for the fall 2021 application
  • A holistic review of academic factors, activities/involvement and leadership ability will be provided to all applicants that meet the criteria and successfully complete the application process.

Programming

Legacy Leaders participate in the following programming:

Incoming Legacy Leaders take a UNIV (Learning Frameworks) class together. If you earned a Learning Frameworks credit while taking college credits at another institution, you are still expected to enroll in this UNIV course as part of the Legacy Leaders scholarship requirement.

During the first year:

  • You will attend monthly Community Leadership Symposiums which provide them the opportunity to learn from government and community leaders
  • Shadow a leader in your desired profession
  • Maintain a digital portfolio where you submit reflections on experiences throughout your four years in the program
  • Complete a capstone project
  • Complete 60 hours per year (30 hours per semester) of approved activities in at least two of the following four categories:
    • Academic/Research
    • Leadership Development
    • Community Service
    • Career/Skill Development

Housing

Incoming Legacy Leaders scholarship recipients are assigned to the Legacy Leaders Living Learning Community (LLC), which is located in the newly built Parliament Village.

Staying in the Legacy Leaders LLC, you will be able to bond with other Legacy Leaders and participate in structured activities. Although new Legacy Leaders are expected to stay in the Legacy Leaders LLC, in rare instances, a student may be exempt from this requirement. If granted an exception, commuters may be required to attend some of the living-learning community activities, in addition to the regular Legacy Leaders programs.
