Coursework for In-service

As part of their participation in the project, In-service Pioneras will complete, in three consecutive semesters (Fall, Spring and Summer), these 3 hybrid graduate courses in Spanish:

• EDBE 5903-Academic Spanish for EC-5th DL Teachers: Aligned to the BTLPT (Bilingual Target Language Proficiency Test), this course will focus on the four domains of language, as well as the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) and the ELPS (English Language Proficiency Standards) for ELLs in Texas. 

• EDBE 5333-Curriculum for Bilingual Education: Methods and Materials: This course focuses on dual language curriculum organization of the elementary school with emphasis on background and objectives of educational program in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies appropriate to the needs of Spanish-speaking children for whom English is a second language.

• EDBE 5413-Teaching Reading and Other Language Arts to Linguistically Different Learners: This course addresses principles and best practices in teaching biliteracy skills to bilinguals in the elementary schools.
