School Nutrition Specialist Practicum

We offer a school nutrition practicum that earns credit hours toward your MS degree as well as hours toward qualification to sit for the School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) certification exam with the School Nutrition AssociationSee the SNS Credentialing Exam Handbook for full criteria and qualifications. Many students who have not matched to a Dietetic Internship take advantage of this opportunity and end up matching the next year!

Highlights

  • EARN MONEY while interning 30-40 hours a week at a school in the Frisco, Dallas or Houston school districts. This is a paid practicum as you will be considered an employee with the school district.
  • Earn 3 semester credit hours per semester toward your MS Degree and 450 hours of experience per semester (possible total of 900 experience hours).
  • Get first-hand experience and training in school food service administration, communication and marketing, nutrition education and operations.
  • Learn how to assess the nutritional needs of diverse populations including school-aged children at risk or of limited income.
  • Meet all or part of the experience requirements necessary to sit for the SNS credentialing exam.
  • Prepares students to assume supervisory positions in school nutrition.
  • Offered Fall and Spring semesters.
