Objective 1: Students will be able to effectively integrate content knowledge addressed throughout the program, as outlined in the ALA Core Competences of Librarianship, and apply that knowledge in a library setting.

Student Learning Outcome Criterion for Success 

2022-2023 Outcomes 

Assessment Measure 1: Practicum Final Evaluation, Professional Competence Assessment: Evaluation of student performance in a library setting during the practicum experience. Broad categories of skills assessed include: Professionalism, Information Resources, Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information, User Services/Reference, Independent Project/Research, Continuing Education, and Administration/Management. 85% of students rated minimally as "meeting expectations" across all skill categories on the Final Evaluation 100% (N = 199)
Assessment Measure 2: Practicum Project Option, Professional Competence Assessment: Students applying to for the Practicum Project Option submit the Competencies Self-Assessment form. Students provide factual documentation regarding their experience with each of the following broad categories of skills: Professionalism, Information Resources, Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information, User Services/Reference, Independent Project/Research, Continuing Education, and Administration/Management. 85% rated minimally as "meeting expectations" across all skill categories on the Competencies Self-Assessment 100% (N = 36)
Assessment Measure 3: SLIS Student Survey, Professional Competence Assessment: Self-assessment of professional knowledge and skills by graduating students. Students rate their perceived level of competence in each of the following broad categories of skills: Professionalism, Information Resources, Organization of Recorded Knowledge and Information, User Services/Reference, Independent Project/Research, Continuing Education, and Administration/Management. 85% rated minimally as "developing" across all skill categories on the survey 100% (N=40)

Objective 2: Students will be able to effectively articulate plans for continuous, career-long professional development, by setting goals for the next 3-5 years.
