TWU appoints new chief marketing and communications officer

DENTON/DALLAS/HOUSTON — Cindy Pollard has been appointed the new associate vice president of marketing and communication for Texas Woman’s University, the nation’s largest university primarily for women. Pollard has more than 30 years of experience in the public relations and marketing/communications field, nearly half of which are in higher education.

“Cindy has the strategic communications and leadership skills necessary to take TWU to the next level in terms of our marketing and brand positioning,” TWU Chancellor Carine M. Feyten said. “In addition, she has a warm, high energy and creative personality that will be an outstanding addition to TWU.”

Pollard will begin working at TWU June 1.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Dr. Feyten and her enthusiastic leadership team to further raise TWU’s visibility and leverage its incredible history, faculty achievements, and student and alumni successes to achieve heightened enrollment, fundraising and other strategic institutional priorities,” Pollard said. “There’s an innovative spirit and level of energy across TWU that I find both refreshing and compelling, and I look forward to joining this engaged community.”

Most recently Pollard served as principal in CP & Associates, a strategic communications consultancy for higher education clients, and as an “of-counsel” member of the KPS3 full-service marketing communications and digital agency in Reno, Nevada. Prior to that, Pollard was associate vice president of the University of Missouri System’s Office of Strategic Communications. In 2012, she left to work with the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities to implement the “Public Universities Advance America” national awareness initiative based on the statewide “Advancing Missouri” campaign that she implemented in Missouri.

Prior to joining the University of Missouri System, Pollard was vice president of the new marketing and communications department at the University of Nevada, Reno. There she led the creation of a brand program for the state’s historic flagship land-grant research university and provided strategic communications for university leaders, fostered new relationships with various Nevada organizations and initiated timely, cost-effective campus communications.

From 1998 to 2004, Pollard was director of public relations for Tufts University’s four campuses in Massachusetts and Talloires, France. There, she built a new public relations team that created an innovative strategic integrated communications program that significantly raised national and international visibility for the private research university.

Pollard is a past chair of the Counselors to Higher Education section of the Public Relations Society of America and former executive committee member on APLU’s Council on Strategic Communications and Advancement.

She earned a master’s degree in international communications and a certificate in Spanish as a research tool from The American University in Washington, D.C. Pollard also has a bachelor’s degree from the news-editorial sequence at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
