TWU's Houston Center presents annual Parry Distinguished Lectureship


HOUSTON— “Using Evidence-Informed Leadership Strategies to Influence Health in the Global Village” is the focus as Texas Woman’s University presents the Parry Distinguished Lectureship Friday, March 6 at TWU’s Institute of Health Sciences-Houston.

The presentation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon in the Houston Endowment Auditorium in TWU’s Houston Center, located at 6700 Fannin St. in the Texas Medical Center. Registration and continuing education units are complimentary. For more information or to register, call (713) 794-2100 or email

The featured speaker for the event is Dr. Karen Morin, 2009-2011 president of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, and professor and director of the Ph.D. program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dr. Morin has more than 40 years of experience as a clinician and educator, teaching at all levels of education: undergraduate, master and doctoral. She received the Excellence in Teaching, National League for Nursing in 2003 and the Excellence in Nursing Education Award, Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses in 1999. Her areas of research include exploring the effects of obesity on pregnancy, gendered issues in health care, and faculty development issues. She is recognized nationally and internationally for her education and leadership expertise. Dr. Morin has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and presented at numerous local, regional and international conferences on leadership development.

The annual Parry Distinguished Lectureship is a collaborative endeavor of the Parry Endowment, TWU Houston’s Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International, Beta Beta Houston. TWU has applied for CNE Type 1 contact hours from the Texas Nursing Association (TNA) for the event. The TNA is an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Additionally, A Call for Research Posters is issued. Those interested in displaying a research poster should submit their name, credentials and title of the poster to Dr. Judith McFarlane at by Feb. 28. Submissions will be acknowledged.
