Be ‘Pioneer Prepared’ in September: TWU Emergency Management hosts events at all three campuses to promote emergency preparedness

DENTON/DALLAS/HOUSTON — With September’s designation as National Preparedness Month, the Texas Woman’s University’s Office of Emergency Management is hosting several events throughout September to help the TWU community learn how to be prepared for a range of emergencies.

“My goal is to help the TWU community prepare both mentally and logistically for a possible disaster,” said Blake Abbe, director of the TWU Office of Emergency Management. “Learning more about emergency preparation is important and can help increase your confidence and ability to handle a real emergencies.”

The TWU Office of Emergency Management assists the university in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies. It works to collaborate with areas all across campus in emergency and business continuity planning in order to increase TWU’s preparedness and recovery from disasters.

The office is hosting several ‘Preparedness and Pizza’ events at all three campuses in September. Free pizza will be served, while supplies last, and those who attend 2 events will have a chance to win a free disaster kit.

12 – 1 p.m., Wed., Sept. 9, Pioneer Room in Hubbard Hall — Communicable Disease Awareness presented by the Denton County Public Health Department
12 – 1 p.m., Wed., Sept. 16, Pioneer Room in Hubbard Hall — Severe Weather Awareness presented by the National Weather Service
12 – 1 p.m., Wed., Sept. 23, Southwest Ballroom in Hubbard Hall — Active Shooter Awareness presented by the TWU Department of Public Safety and Office of Emergency Management

12 – 1 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 10, Room 1010 — Communicable Disease Awareness presented by the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department
12 – 1 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 17, Room 1010 — Active Shooter Awareness presented by the TWU Department of Public Safety and Office of Emergency Management
12 – 1 p.m., Thurs., Sept. 24, Room 1010 — Severe Weather Awareness presented by the National Weather Service
