TWU Holiday Gift Program receives national recognition

DENTON – Texas Woman’s University’s Holiday Gift Program for students who have children has been selected to receive the 2013 Outstanding Collaboration Award from the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).

TWU’s Commuter Services Department coordinates the annual Holiday Gift Program along with the Department of Housing and Institutional Development Department. Each year the program provides gifts to about 200 children of qualifying TWU students at the Denton, Dallas and Houston campuses. In November, TWU faculty and staff – either by department or individually – sign up to provide the gifts. TWU students who have children qualify for the program based on their financial aid status.

“So many of our students are parents who are making sacrifices to attend college to improve the lives of their families,” said Amy O’Keefe, director of the TWU Commuter Services Department. “The Holiday Gift program is a way for the TWU community to show its support of these students by providing gifts to their children.

“We are immensely grateful that ACPA recognizes the work and the value of this program that means so much to students and the university community,” she said.

TWU will receive the award during the ACPA national convention in March.

With 7,500 members from 1,200 private and public institutions from across the U.S. and around the world, ACPA is the nation’s leading comprehensive student affairs association. For more information, visit
