About Accuplacer

Accuplacer is a three-part knowledge assessment covering the subjects of reading, writing, and mathematics. These tests are administered on a computer. The structure of the test is as follows:

Reading Comprehension - There are 20 questions of two primary types in Reading Comprehension: reading passages and sentence relationships.

Sentence Skills & WritePlacer* - There are 20 Sentence Skills questions of two types: sentence-correction and construction shift. WritePlacer measures your ability to write effectively via submission of a writing sample (essay).

Elementary Algebra - There are approximately 12 administered on the Elementary Algebra test, divided into the following content areas: Numbers and Quantities, Algebraic Expressions and Problem Solving.

The College Board provides this Accuplacer Study Guide for your preparation purposes.

*Note: If a student passes one portion of the writing assessment (Sentence Skills or WritePlacer) he/she would only need to retest on the portion that was not passed. Please let us know when you arrive for testing which portion of the writing assessment you need.
