TWU hosts NCAA DII regional quarterfinal tournament

March 11, 2024 — DENTON — The TWU Pioneer basketball team trounced the weekend competition at the Lonestar Conference Championships held in Frisco at Comerica  Center, March 8-10, winning all three games. 

They not only earned the top spot but also, for the first time in TWU history, won the opportunity to host the upcoming NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament, scheduled for March 15-18. Tournament play begins on Friday, March 15 at noon in the Kitty Magee Arena on the Denton campus. Friday’s games will be as follows:

  • (1) Texas Woman's vs. (8) Colorado School of Mines | 5 p.m.
  • (4) Texas Permian Basin vs. (5) Adams State | 7:30 p.m.
  • (2) Colorado Mesa vs. (7) Lubbock Christian | 2:30 p.m.
  • (3) Regis (CO) vs. (6) UT Tyler | Noon

Two semifinal games will be played on Saturday, March 16 with the first game beginning at 5 p.m. The final game will be held on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 11 a.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday and 6 p.m. on Monday.

All other tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children. Parking is free, and concessions will be available. Attendees should abide by the university’s clear bag policy

All games will be webcast on ncaa.com, the Hudl platform and an OTT app – "NCAA Championships Pass." Fans will have three viewing options: $9.95 per contest, $29.95 for all Division II Women's Basketball Championship games excluding the semifinals and championship game, and $49.95 for all Division II Women's and Men's Basketball Championship games, excluding the semifinals and championship games. The semifinals and finals of the Division II Women's Basketball Championship will be carried on CBS Sports Network.

The eight NCAA regional champions advancing to the Women's Elite Eight will be seeded by the Women's Basketball Committee after completion of the regionals. The 2024 NCAA Division II Women's Elite Eight will be held at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Missouri, March 25, 27 and 29.
