Feb. 6, 2018 – DENTON – On Friday, Feb. 2, 16 Texas Woman’s University students received scholarships and were matched with mentors through Empowering Women as Leaders, a nonprofit organization that helps reshape women’s lives through education and mentoring.

Empowering Women as Leaders (EWL) connected with the university in 2005 to provide scholarships and mentoring to women ages 23 and older seeking their first undergraduate degrees. Since then, more than $100,000 in scholarships have been awarded to TWU students. Currently, 31 professional women in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex mentor these students, according to Dayna Hounsel, division vice president with ADP management services company, who has been involved with the program for three years as a mentor and board member.

“Mentors and students are matched based on background, career and personal interests,” Hounsel said. “The mentor continues to work with the student through the completion of her degree and two additional years to provide workplace guidance.”
