Salary rates on sponsored projects are subject to the cost principles in the Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (2 CFR 200). A faculty member cannot receive additional compensation for his or her participation in a sponsored project over and above his or her base salary.
Request for “Buy-Out” Funds for Faculty Reassignment on Grants
Faculty members sometimes receive grants that cover a substantial part but not all of a semester or year’s salary. Salary from the grant is paid to the faculty and the salary savings supplanted by the grant funds are turned over to the Provost. The department then completes the Request for "Buy-Out" Funds for Faculty Reassignment on Grants to request funds from the Provost to pay the salary of an adjunct or GTA. The buy-out is for teaching and the faculty member is expected to participate fully in service and administrative duties.
To create a new faculty position, the Position Approval Form - Faculty must be completed and routed for approval.
