The "Course Application" is completed by the professor. The professor completes Sections I-V (including his/her signature in section IV) of the TWU Course Application for Practice-Based Experience if the course requires the class to attend one school site as a group.
The placement process begins by emailing the course number, the school district, campus choice and district program (regular school hours or extended/afterschool program) to Sharon Masten. Ms. Masten will provide the professor with any additional requirements per the individual course needs. Requirements vary per school district and per the district’s programs.
The professor meets with the principal of the campus to discuss the specifics of the class placement and obtains principal’s signature on the Campus Approval Request Form. All students and professors scheduled to attend on-site are required to submit new criminal background requirements each semester. Students taking multiple courses requiring field experience will be responsible for submitting background paperwork for each class.
Denton ISD requires all those who were not born in the United States to provide proof of tuberculosis (TB) test clearance issued from a state of Texas physician. (Students may go to the health clinic of their choice.) Denton ISD requires TB results to be uploaded as part of the online background clearance process. The criminal background requirements, as well as all conditions of the district’s placement, must be fulfilled in order to complete the application.
All the required paperwork must be submitted together as a packet to Sharon Masten, Professional Development Center, Stoddard Hall, Room 202C. The packet consists of the following items:
- TWU Course Application for Practice-Based Experience
- Campus Approval Request Form signed by the principal
- Alphabetical List of Student Names and Emails
- Criminal Background Requirements on all students in alphabetical order
- Professor’s Criminal Background Requirements
Incomplete application packets cannot be processed. Allow 3-4 weeks from receipt of completed packet to the scheduled start date. The professor will be emailed approval for their class to begin once this office obtains the placement confirmation and clearances from the school district.
