TWU Enactus team heads to national competition after winning regionals
The 2017 TWU Enactus Team
The Texas Woman’s University Enactus team will compete in the 2017 Enactus U.S. National Exposition in Kansas City, Missouri, May 21-24 following the team’s April 10 win at the Enactus Regional Competition in Dallas.
TWU Enactus Team members are: presenters Erin Engel, Michelle Gonnet, Jesse Malone, Elvis Vargas, Selena Garcia and Victoria Perez. Members of the support team are: Erick Flores, Sterling Stinson, Alyssa Gaynor, Stephanie Avila, Naomi McDowell and Diana Vo.
The team’s sponsors are David Rylander, TWU professor of Marketing, and Kurt Krause, director of internships and experiential learning for the Pioneer Center for Student Excellence. Both Rylander and Krause are Sam Walton Fellows.
This year’s Enactus projects included: Butterfly at Work (job seeking skills for women), Thriving with Affordable Nutrition (better eating on a budget for single moms), Glow in Glory (making candles from wine bottles to raise money to support homeless veterans), Literacy Beyond Borders: Zambia (books and computers for a poor school in Zambia). Other team projects were a Girl Scout Conference, ongoing support in a Belize village, new composting plans for TWU and a new project to make crafts from corks to support victims of sex trafficking.
Enactus is an international non-profit organization active on more than 1,500 university campuses in more than 39 countries. Enactus teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that teach market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics.
