Texas Woman’s graduate student receives International Peace Scholarship
Esther Ajayi-Lowo, a doctoral student in the Texas Woman’s University Department of Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies, has been awarded the Philanthropic Educational Organization’s prestigious International Peace Scholarship. The International Peace Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for graduate study in North America to select women from countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.
Ajayi-Lowo holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Obafemi Awolowo University, and a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy from University of Lagos, Nigeria. She currently is pursuing a Ph.D. in Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies at TWU. Ajayi-Lowo has professional experience in women’s rights and development issues within Nigerian governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and serves on the board of trustees for Projekthope Nigeria, a non-profit that supports and defends media freedom and pluralism in Nigeria through intervention, training and research.
“We are very pleased and proud that Esther has received this highly selective and prestigious award,” said Mark Kessler, Ph.D., interim chair of the TWU Department of Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies. “Receiving this scholarship is a wonderful reflection of Esther’s ability to integrate her intellectual interests with her commitments to social justice and international peace.”
