TWU Department of Public Safety celebrates 50 years of service

The entire TWU Department of Public Safety from all three campuses celebrated the department's 50th anniversary Aug. 7 with recognition of heroism, service, promotions and a reaffirmation of the oath of office.

The Texas Woman’s University Department of Public Safety honored its own and celebrated its 50th year of protecting and serving the university at a reception Aug. 7. Recognition of heroism, service, promotions and a reaffirmation of the oath of office were part of the event that honored university police and their families.

“TWU DPS expects a high level of professional conduct and performance, and frequently members of the department perform in such a manner that recognition is deserved,” said TWU Police Chief Elizabeth Pauley. “Also, we wanted to honor the service of our officers, guards, staff and others with an event their families could attend to witness their recognition.”

Sgt. Sam Garrison, Cpl. Vince Oldag, Officer Michael Nelson and Officer Keri Fortner each received a Medal of Valor from Pauley in honor of their heroism during the fire at the TWU Select Lone Star Apartments April 20. Chief Pauley also received a Special Commendation from Texas Governor Greg Abbott in recognition of her commitment to her officers and department.

Sgt. Dadra Bundick and Cpl. Clifford Fausset received Community Service Awards, Officer Sandra Marquez was named Officer of the Year, Guard John Lopez from the Houston campus received the Chief’s Award and Tana Maryovich, telecommunicator, was named Civilian Employee of the Year.

In addition, these members of the department received their promotions at the event:

  • Scotty Alvis was promoted from Officer I to Officer II
  • Terry Collins was promoted from Officer I to Officer II
  • Sandra Marquez was promoted from Officer I to Officer II
  • Lola Rabon was promoted from Officer I to Officer II
  • Lakiena Baker was promoted from Telecommunicator I to Telecommunicator II
  • Morgan Cartwright was promoted rom Telecommunicator I to Telecommunicator II
  • Tana Maryovich was promoted from Telecommunicator I to Telecommunicator II
  • Michael Nelson was promoted from Officer II to Corporal and
  • Marcus Wenzel was promoted from Integration Analyst to Manager of Parking/Communications & Police Technology

The ceremony also included the undertaking of reaffirmation of the oath of office by officers Scotty Alvis, Dadra Bundick, Terry Collins, Clifford Fausset, Scott Fleitman, Keri Fortner, Samuel Garrison, David Law, Sandra Marques, Matthew Marter, Michael Nelson, Jennifer Niederhaus, Vincent Oldag, Elizabeth Pauley, Lola Rabon, and Kimberly Zachary; and guards Naeem Ali, Roshell Bowie, Gary DeLuca, Keenan Duff, De'Andre Ford, Donna Frazier, John Gearen, Bobby Gibson,  Justin Heard, Gloria Holcomb, Niateka James, John Lopez, Roland Love, Caleb McCaslin, Rosalind McShon, Luke Tower, Beatriz Vale and Anthony Valentino.

“The safety and well-being of the TWU community is the top priority of our Department of Public Safety,” Pauley said. “Our staff works diligently to keep our university a safe place for our students, faculty, staff and visitors.”
