Concert Choir to perform at Meyerson Symphony Center on March 7
The Texas Woman’s University Concert Choir will perform in the famed Meyerson Symphony Center as part of the Women’s Chorus of Dallas’ Voices of Women II concert on March 7.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Meyerson, 2301 Flora St. in Dallas. Tickets are available from $20 to $75, with student and senior discounts available. For more information, visit www.thewomenschorusofdallas.com
In addition to performing solo, the TWU choir will join with the Women’s Chorus of Dallas, the University of North Texas Women’s Chorus and high school choirs from the Dallas Independent School District for a performance that will fill the auditorium with more than 250 female voices singing music by women composers.
“Performing in that quality of a hall, with its wonderful acoustics, will be an incredible experience,” said Joni Jensen, Ph.D., director of the TWU Concert Choir. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our students; we get to show what we can do to a larger audience.”
Among the songs the TWU choir will perform is “Unsung Saint,” written by Jensen and first performed by the choir at the inauguration of TWU Chancellor Carine M. Feyten in 2014.
The concert’s focus on women’s choirs and works by female composers or poets is important to Jensen.
“Music always has been dominated by men, as far as leadership goes,” she said. “It’s not a place women are directed toward very often, but I think it’s important that we let those voices be heard.”
