Profile

Paul Thomas is Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator of Music Theory and Composition at Texas Woman’s University. As a composer, Paul’s acoustic and electroacoustic works have been performed at conferences, festivals, and venues throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. His choral and vocal music is published through Hal Leonard, Carl Fischer, E.C. Schirmer, and BriLee Press.

Paul’s areas of interest regarding music theory include electronic music analysis, the music of Punch Brothers, and theory pedagogy. He has presented at various conferences such as College of Music Society, Texas Society for Music Theory, Texas Music Educators Association, and Pedagogy into Practice.

Paul is also one of the hosts of Note Doctors, a podcast where he gets to nerd-out about music theory pedagogy with music theory instructors from around North America. Paul was the recipient of the Texas Woman’s University Innovation in Academia Award in 2020.
