Honor & Veterans Cords

Honor Cords

Students graduating with Bachelor Degrees who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above would be eligible to purchase and wear honor cords. Honor recipients will be emailed by the end of next week. Honor cords for undergraduates can be secured through Deb with Student Life.

Graduate students are not able to pursue honor cord academic distinction through the same University channels. The Graduate School deems your acceptance into a Master or Doctoral level program at TWU as an honor in and of itself. For members of honor organizations, honor cords or stoles may be worn at the Commencement ceremony. Please get with your respective honor organization to order the cords (or stoles) that reflect your academic standing within the graduate student community.

For more information about "Graduating with Honors", please visit the Registrar’s Office.

Veteran Cords

Individuals who have been in the military service of our country and have presented documentation to the Veteran Affairs Office (estimated deadline of December 3rd) for veteran cords, will be able to pick them up at the Commencement site during check-in.

For Doctoral Candidates

Those graduating with a doctorate degree may rent the tam, gown, tassel and hood online. Students renting will need to return only their gown following the Graduating Ceremony. The tam, tassel and hood are yours to keep. Please meet Deb in the Student Preparation/Line-up Area immediately following the Commencement to return your gown.

If you have an interest in purchasing the higher end doctoral regalia, please contact Deb at dunruh@twu.edu. Although the cost associated with such a purchase is significant (over $700), it may be an appropriate investment for those whose pathway will continue in the higher education realm.

Pick up Doctoral Regalia — 1st week in December

Doctoral students who have ordered a rental gown, with hood, tam and tassel can plan to pick up their orders the first week of December. The exact date and time of delivery will be announced later as we approach the last month in the semester. Once delivered, it will be kept at the Office of Student Life for pick-up at your convenience through December 11th. All orders not claimed by 12/11/2018 will be taken to the Commencement site the morning of 12/12/2018. Doctoral candidates may find Deb in the Student Preparation/Line-Up Area to secure their order when they arrive on site.

Diplomas

Following Commencement, staff at TWU will be making a final detailed review of your classes completed for your respective degree. It will be another 6 – 8 weeks following the graduation ceremony that you can expect your diploma to arrive at the address detailed on your graduation application.

Tickets

The Registrar’s Office has confirmed that 14 tickets will be made available for your guests to witness your graduation ceremony on Wednesday, December 12th, 2018. Mid-November, you can expect an email from the Registrar’s Office to your TWU email account that will give you instructions on how to claim your 14 tickets through Pioneer Portal. Please be advised that early December, an opportunity will be communicated by the Registrar’s Office once again to claim up to 2 additional tickets. Once that pool of extra tickets is opened, graduating students will be accommodated on a first-come first-served basis.

Parking

More information about parking will be communicated in the upcoming weeks. In general, as long as there is no other event scheduled at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, complimentary parking is available in the Town Center Garage. [If an event is scheduled in the Pavilion on the same day as the TWU Commencement, vehicles parked in the Town Center Garage would be subject to the Event Parking Rate.] As we draw closer to Commencement, more details will be shared.

Commencement Photography

Marc Nathan Photographers, Inc. will be working with us to capture photos of each graduating student as they walk across the stage. More detailed information will follow.
