Family and Consumer Sciences studies the relationship between individuals, families and the communities in which they live and helps them make informed decisions to improve their quality of life. The subject matter in this field covers a variety of topics, including:
- Family studies
- Child development
- Food and nutrition
- Environmental design
- Fashion and textiles
- Consumer and resource management
- Work-based learning
Texas Woman’s University offers Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences degrees* in the following subject areas:
*Successful completion of these programs leads to certification to teach Family and Consumer Sciences in secondary schools. Admission to the Teacher Education program is required before professional education classes can be taken.
**A successful passing score on the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Content Examination (AAFCS/TX) leads to the Certified Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS) national credential.
How to Apply
- First, apply to TWU. You must be accepted by the university before you can apply to our program. You can check your status through the Office of Admissions Processing.
- After you’ve been accepted, schedule an appointment for initial advising with the department advisor.
- Participate in undergraduate orientation. This is mandatory for all first-year and transfer students with fewer than 30 credit hours.
