M.A.T. with an Emphasis in English
Earn your M.A.T. degree with an emphasis in English at TWU.
Do you have a passion for language, literature and composition? Are you interested in changing professions or beginning a new chapter in your life? If you already hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than education, our master of arts in teaching (M.A.T.) degree with 7-12 English/language arts teacher certification is your next step toward a fulfilling and rewarding career in education.
Visit the College of Professional Education’s M.A.T. website to apply and learn more about teacher certification program requirements. As a graduate student seeking certification in 7-12 English/language arts, you will be required to comply with the admission standards of our department, the College of Professional Education and the Teacher Education Program.
Once enrolled in the program, you will meet with an ESFL adviser to discuss graduate courses that will be taken within the department. Your remaining courses will be offered through the College of Professional Education.
The MAT with an Emphasis in English prepares educator candidates for the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) exam (State Board for Educator Certification through the Texas Education Agency). If you are a resident of another state, contact the Office of Educator Preparation Services to determine whether our program fulfills requirements to take the certification exam in your home state.
