April 25, 2023 – DENTON – Danza Chikawa, a Texas-based group that performs Aztec dances, recently brought its spectacular traditional costumes and dances to the Texas Woman's University Dance Building's black box studio.

Danza Chikawa represents the modern tradition of Aztec dance and explores the cultures, customs and native traditions of the Americas. The group is led by Xochitezca (Alejandra Tapia) and Eheca (Francisco Garcia), and their performances feature colorful Aztec costumes and makeup and traditional music.

The company, whose motto is "education, culture and dance tradition, honoring our elders," performs at schools, museums, libraries, festivals and community events. The theme of the dances is nature and the agricultural cycles, its elements and their connection to modern life.

The TWU International Dance Company joined the performance.
