Texas Woman’s faculty Nancy DiMarco elected to credentialing commission

Nancy DiMarco, Ph.D., RDN, CSSD, Texas Woman’s University nutrition and food sciences professor and director of the university’s Institute for Women’s Health, recently was elected by the members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to serve on its Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). DiMarco will serve a three-year term.

The 12-member CDR develops and reviews the standards of practice required for the certification of registered dietitians, technicians, specialists and other nutrition professionals. The commission maintains records on more than 100,000 dietetics and nutrition professionals to ensure patients are receiving the best care possible. The organization also creates the Code of Ethics for dietetic practitioners, establishes the fees for certification and administers credentialing programs.

DiMarco, who has been at Texas Woman’s since 1982, currently conducts research assessing differences in dietary proteins and their effects on muscle protein metabolism. She helped create the university’s graduate program in exercise and sports nutrition, the first interdisciplinary program at TWU and the third program of its type nationally. DiMarco also initiated the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ certification for registered dietitians specializing in sports nutrition.

DiMarco received her doctoral degree in nutritional physiology from Iowa State University, her master of science in biochemistry from Iowa State University, and her bachelor of arts in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from the University of Colorado. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in physiological chemistry at Ohio State University’s School of Medicine before joining TWU.

“I was humbled to be selected to run, but to be elected by my peers is really exciting,” DiMarco said. “I look forward to making a contribution.”
