Carolyn Caldwell

Carolyn Caldwell received a Master of Science degree in Health Care Administration from Texas Woman's University in 1997.

As Chief Operating Officer for three years, Ms. Caldwell was responsible for day-to-day operations of Dallas Southwest Medical Center (HCA), a 107-bed acute care facility; she then served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer for that hospital for just over a year, turning their $1.5 loss to a $468,000 profit. She moved up the ranks of HCA in Texas by acting as Vice President/Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer at the 326-bed Medical Center of Arlington from 2000 to 2003, where she lead the opening of the 3-story Women’s Center.

In 2004, she continued her successful career as President/Chief Executive Officer of Lee’s Summit Medical Center (HCA) in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Included in her many accomplishments at that hospital is the establishment of a Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center.

From October 2007 to October 2012, Ms. Caldwell served as President/Chief Executive Officer of Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, Missouri. She was responsible for all administrative and regulatory functions of the 221-bed acute care hospital with a Level II Trauma Center and a Level III NICU, over 1,200 employees, 500 physicians, and net revenue of $260 million.

Currently, Ms. Caldwell is the Chief Executive Officer of Desert Regional Medical Center, a 387-bed acute care hospital in Palm Springs, California, which has over 1,700 employees, Advanced Primary Stroke Center and Advanced Congestive Heart Failure program, the only NICU in the California desert, and affiliation with the University of California Riverside’s School of Medicine.

Her leadership is demonstrated both in her career and her professional organizations. Ms. Caldwell will begin a three-year term on the American Hospital Association Board of Trustees in 2013. She is a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives, a member of AHA’s Region 6 Policy Board, and former chair of the AHA Institute for Diversity for Health Management.

Carolyn is married to Daniel Caldwell and has two terrific children, Monique Williams and Jonathon Caldwell.
