Marjorie BaltzelMarjorie Baltzel was born in 1891 in Lyons, New York. She received a degree from the Mechanics Institute in Rochester, NY in 1913, following which she worked as a Supervisor of Art in Titusville, PA, and a Supervisor of Art in Ridgefield Park, NY. She also taught at Oregon State College and one summer at Iowa State Teachers College. She returned to school and received a BA from Syracuse University in 1928 and an MA from Columbia University in 1932. While working on her degree at Columbia University, she taught at TSCW from 1928 to 1932 as an instructor. She also spent one summer studying under the sculptor Robert Laurent. In 1932, she became an Assistant Professor at TSCW and in 1950 she became an Associate Professor. She exhibited at the Western Art Association, Kansas City, and the Texas Centennial, Dallas. After retiring from TWU, Ms. Baltzel returned to her native New York where she died in 1979.
