Statement of Purpose
BRIDGES is a campus-wide student organization developed from the Women's Studies Program.
BRIDGES, inspired by the books This Bridge Called my Back and this bridge we call home, is an organization that promotes crossing boundaries and categories that separate us through community service, activism, and scholarship.
Upcoming Events
BRIDGES is active in several things this year:
Preparing monthly dinners for the DCFOF Shelter;
starting a book club, current book is Bonesetter's Daughter;
going as a group to the Gloria Steinem: Women and Men: A Partnership for the 21st Century lecture at UTD on April 13th;
holding a Car Clinic in April;
and has merged with Pioneers 4 Inclusion tabling for gender neutral accessible bathrooms.
Qualifications necessary for membership
In order to be a member of BRIDGES students must meet the following criteria:
• Express a sincere interest in respectfully connecting with people across various social categories
• Commit to participating in organization events, including developing, implementing, and evaluating the event
• Be committed to addressing social inequalities through social change and activism
• Be affiliated with TWU as a student, faculty or staff member
• Be willing to participate in raising funds to further the cause of equality for all people
• Pay a yearly membership fee of $20.00 ($10.00 per semester)
