While we believe a
face-to-face session with a writing consultant is the most
effective way to receive writing assistance, we do offer an
option if students cannot visit our brick and mortar Write
Site. You can electronically submit essays to our Online
Writing Lab or OWL to work with a Cyber Tutor (an online
writing consultant).
For this option, the same
guidelines apply as with a face-to-face session with a
writing consultant at the Write Site. The Cyber Tutor can
help you get started on an assignment, expand or develop
ideas in a draft you have started, or answer specific
questions you have about grammar or documentation in order
to help you better understand the difficulties you might be
having with mechanical issues as well as how to improve
skills in those areas. However, we will not edit your paper
or do the work for you. What we hope to provide is an
opportunity for you to have a trained reader offer
feedback and guidance to help you improve not only a
given written product, but your writing processes and
practices as well.
But ultimately the work is
yours to complete; we are only here to offer help. We thank
you for allowing us to assist you as you strive to improve
your writing.
Please keep in mind when
submitting to the OWL…
1.
We limit our
face-to-face sessions to 30 minutes, so we ask that students
send one electronic submission per week with a maximum of 6
pages per submission, which is what we could cover in one
on-site session.
2.
We cannot assist students with any type of exam.
3.
It may take up to 48
business hours (2 business days) to receive a response to
your submission.
4.
The Write Site is
open fall, spring, and summer sessions only.
To Submit a paper via the
Online Writing Lab
(an email exchange with a Cyber Tutor)
1.
Fill out the
OWL Submission Form (please be thorough)
2.
Submit your essay to
owl@twu.edu (please submit your essay in either .doc or
.rtf format)
3.
Within 48 hours
(Monday through Thursday) a Cyber Tutor will respond with
comments and suggestions.
