Dr. Jennifer Phillips-Denny - Tutor Coordinator
Welcome to the Write Site! I came to the Write Site in January of 2011 with a variety of experience in higher education gained over the past 14 years. I have taught numerous college English courses at UNT, Grayson College, and Colorado State University. I’ll also be teaching for TWU beginning in the fall! I was the Assistant Director of Freshman English and the UNT Student Writing Lab from 2001-2006. My other experiences in higher education include managing course redesign projects, instructional design, learning technologies, and assessment. I received in B.A. in Sociology from Texas Tech in 1995, an M.A. in English from UNT in 1998, and a Ph. D. in English in 2001. My areas of scholarly interest are Victorian literature and rhetoric and composition.
I spend my leisure time taking care of my pets (We have a lot of pets!); reading and writing; playing video games with my husband, David, and my son, Devin; and trying to be on the water in a kayak as much as possible. I also dabble in gardening and some mixed media art, but I’m not very good at either, so I mostly stick with writing!
I’m pleased to be managing the Write Site, working with our awesome writing consultants, and I’m looking forward to working with TWU students!
Wylijanna - Write Site Secretary
Bonjour! I’m Wylijanna, reigning empress (read: senior secretary) of the Write Site Office and Office of First Year Composition. As the undisputed queen of the office, I can help you schedule appointments and answer questions about the Write Site and First Year Composition program. I can’t, however, “look over” your paper. (Even though my writing skills are mad legit, yo.) I hold complete, unchallenged supremacy over offering courteous, well-informed assistance to people who call, email, or come into the office. I received my B.A. in English from TWU in 2007; and, after a stint of teaching and wandering the globe, I consider it a privilege to work at this fabulous institution. Reading, listening to music, playing board games, trying to make coffee, and watching random television shows on Netflix are a few of my pastimes.
Cindy - Write Site Student Assistant
Hey there! My name is Cindy Dominguez and this is my 4th semester at TWU. I am a nursing major and I am hoping to be able to attend the Dallas campus nursing program soon. I started working at the Write Site in August and I love it! The people here are amazing. In my free time I like to play Rock Band with my boyfriend, play with my little pit bull puppy, and hang out with my friends. I also enjoy watching movies, I love Netflix, and doodling.
Writing Consultants
The Write Site at TWU is staffed by undergraduate and graduate students who use a mixture of directive, collaborative, active-listening, and questioning techniques in order to inspire and encourage students to express their ideas and communicate significant, arguable, and researchable topics; real-world and job related communications; and even autobiographical narrative to their audience.
Brieanna - Lead Tutor
Hello, I'm Brieanna, and this will be my third semester at The Write Site. I graduated in May, 2011, receiving a BA in English, with a minor in Education from TWU. I completed my student teaching with Denton ISD, and am a certified teacher. I am currently pursuing my MA in English, and enjoy helping others learn how to become better writers. In my free time I enjoy learning about new computer technology, reading, writing, watching TV and movies, and occasionally practicing piano.
Nick - Senior Tutor
Hello! My name is Nick, and this is my second year in The Write Site. I am a double major here at TWU in Theatre and English. I plan on entering graduate school in the spring for a Master's in English. I look forward to meeting new people and improving my own writing through the peer tutoring process here at The Write Site. When I am not in school or working, I am at the ice arena training students or skating for my own pleasure.
Sara
Hi there! I am Sara, and this is my third semester in the Master’s in Teaching program here at TWU. I received my B.A. in English from UNT in 2007, and I worked as the Publications Editor for Studies in the Novel for two years. I am an avid reader and writer, and I enjoy helping others communicate and express themselves creatively and clearly. In my free time, I love spending time with my dog and cat (Alice and Ted, respectively), going to the lake, reading, writing, cooking, and playing games (the card and board variety).
Lindsay
Hello! My name is Lindsay, and I am a first year graduate student at TWU. I am currently working toward an M.S. in School and Community Counseling. I earned my undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Texas prior to teaching 7th grade language arts and reading in Dallas ISD for three years. Helping others take pride and ownership over their writing is a passion of mine that, in turn, provides me with opportunities for growth. In my free time, I enjoy live music, camping out at book stores, catching up on bad tv shows, and cheering on the Mavs.
Natalie
Hi, my name is Natalie and I am a new graduate student at TWU thrilled to pursue my dream of earning my Ph.D. in English. I enjoy helping struggling students learn to better express themselves via the written word, and have a soft spot for those with learning disabilities (both of my children are dyslexic). I am in my third year as an adjunct English professor at Collin College and love the rapport--once established--in my classes. I earned my MA in Mass Communications/Journalism from Texas Tech and my BA in English/Creative Writing from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Some of my favorites are ethnic food, live theater, reading, attending my kid's athletic events, baking, watching Dancing with the Stars and bible study.
Daniel
Hi, how are you? My name is Daniel. I got my BA in Literary Studies from UTD and now I’m working towards my MA in English right here at TWU. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and so I hope through peer tutoring I can help others while learning something myself. In my free time, I enjoy writing some poems and prose-poems, writing and playing music, hanging out with birds, watching way too much TV, and playing the occasional video game.
Chris
Hi, my name is Christopher! I always find myself desperately clinging to a few almost insignificant facts about myself when asked to describe who I am like a kitten precariously perched on the edge of an immense cliff that contains the world’s most aggressive group of alligators at the bottom. With that being said, I just want to state that I utterly enjoy helping people and believe that any assistance that I can offer to another person not only makes their life better but mine as well. I am looking forward to an amazing year filled with many opportunities for me to grow as a writer by helping others branch out beyond the boundaries in which writing has currently confined us both!
