Dear Volunteer,

Thank you for showing interest in our study. Below are the basic requirements of you as a participant:

The study will require involvement for approximately 3 months; however, the total time spent at the lab will be approximately 10-12 hours over the 3 months. The first month of study will require you to record the dates of 2 consecutive menstrual cycles, i.e., date of the beginning of your flow/period and the date of the end of your flow/period.  This is due to the timing of the experimental session’s blood collection that must occur during the follicular phase (2 to 3 days following end of period) of your menstrual cycle.

Following your 2nd menstrual cycle, you will be required to complete a fitness test to determine your exercise capacity and body composition measurements.

After your 3rd menstrual cycle, you will come to the laboratory for 3 consecutive days to have blood collected, record your diet for the past 24 to 48 hours. On the day of the first blood draw you will be asked to exercise. Exercise will consist of walking at a moderate intensity until you expend 500 calories (45-70 minutes of walking).

Following your 4th menstrual cycle, you will come to the laboratory again for 3 consecutive days to have blood collected, record your diet for the past 24 to 48 hours, and to perform the control session (seated rest for 60 min) on the day of the first blood draw.

In order to participate in the study, you will need to complete a brief interview. The interview can occur at my office or over the phone. My office is located in the Human Development Build (near the corner of Texas Ave. and Bell Ave), in office 017A (in the Institute for Women’s Health Laboratory, room 017). If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reply by either email or phone.
