Fonts
For text that appears on all TWU web pages, excluding any text set within a graphic, the following fonts faces were chosen:
- Lucida Grande (sans-serif)
- Helvetica (sans-serif)
- Verdana (sans-serif)
- Palatino (serif)
- Georgia (serif)
These fonts were chosen for two reasons:
- They are commonly available on most computers regardless of operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Linux/Unix).
- Verdana and Georgia in particular were designed specifically for use on computer displays.
The university templates use a stylesheet that specifies font faces for you. This means that you can write and edit the copy in your pages without concerning yourself over font selection.
Underlining words or phrases — Don't do it!
From the beginning, hyperlinks in web pages have appeared in color with underlines, e.g., this is a link to the TWU website. Because of this, any underlined text on a web page appears to be a link. Site visitors can quickly become confused and aggravated when underlined words or phrases are not links. Be kind to your visitors: do NOT use underlines to emphasize words or phrases; use bold or italic fonts instead.
