Philanthropy Spotlight events are events that may not occur every year, but they focus on a particular issues affecting society. These events include those like: The Hunger Banquet which educates students about the effects of hunger and homelessness; The Game of Life which highlights the effects of discrimination; Dance Marathon, an organized dance endurance contest that raises awareness for particular areas of need, usually tied to children's health; StarPower! which allows students the opportunity to learn about difference in socioeconomic status and looks heavily into issues of classism.

As a result of participation in Philanthropy Spotlight events participants are able to:

  • Understand a particular issue of difference or area of need within the community;
  • Reflect on and provide analysis of personal development and learning as a result of the interactive nature of the event; and
  • Learn of ways they can get engaged in efforts to end effects of these issues or those affected by them.
