Youngblood to perform flute recital at TWU

9/14/05

DENTON — Dr. Pamela Youngblood, associate professor of music at Texas Woman’s University, will perform new compositions in a faculty flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Oakland and Sawyer streets on TWU’s Denton campus. Admission is free. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.

Dr. Youngblood, accompanied by pianist Gabriel Bita, will perform such works as “Songs of Armenia” by Jeff Manookian, Reza Najfar’s “La Persienne” and Daniel Dorff’s “9 Walks Down 7th Avenue.”

“I am excited about this program,” Dr. Youngblood said. “These new compositions are wonderful. As their titles suggest, they were inspired by the heritage and surroundings of the composers.”

Dr. Youngblood is the founding director of the TWU and Brookhaven College flute choirs, and is a founding member of Zephyr Winds, a TWU ensemble dedicated to the discovery and performance of chamber music for woodwinds. She has performed at conventions of the National Flute Association, the Texas Music Educators Association and the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors. Dr. Youngblood has been principal flutist and a featured soloist of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra since 1980.
