TWU Wind Ensemble Slates Concert Debut

TWU Wind Ensemble Slates Concert Debut
2/14/03
DENTON The newly formed Texas Woman's University Wind
Ensemble will debut in concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the
Margo Jones Performance Hall, located at Oakland and Sawyer
streets on TWU's Denton campus. Admission is free.
John Wacker, adjunct professor of music at TWU, will direct
the new ensemble, which consists of all wind instruments, from
clarinets to trombones.
Mr. Wacker said the 40-member ensemble differs from a
tradition concert band. A concert band may consist of two or more
instrumentalists playing the same part, whereas a wind ensemble
relies more on the strength of the individual player,
he said.
Mr. Wacker said he is looking forward to the ensemble's
premiere concert, which will include the works of Vaughan
Williams, Margolis, Bizet, Root and Holsinger.
It will be an important milestone in the development of
this ensemble, he said.
