TWU Theatre Sets A Place
For The Dining Room
11/04/03
DENTON — The changing
social mores over the course of three generations are played out
in a single room as the Texas Woman’s University Theatre Department
presents The Dining Room, a domestic comedy written by
A.R. Gurney.
Performances are at 8
p.m. Nov. 12-15, with matinees at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 and 2 p.m. Nov.
16. All performances will take place in the Redbud Theatre on Bell
Avenue on TWU’s Denton campus. Tickets are $5 for students
and senior citizens and $10 for adults. For reservations and other
information, call the TWU Theatre Box Office at (940) 898-2020.
The play consists of
18 vignettes, or “snapshots,” of the American family
from all decades of the 20th Century. Each scene takes place in
the dining room as the audience sees the dynamics of a room in which
the “meals and deals” of life are conducted.
Eleven members of the
cast must fill the shoes of the 57 different characters who come
together to tell the stories of The Dining Room. Cast members
include Casey Bellows of Rio Vista; Beau Bratcher of Whitesboro;
Ben Derby of Denton; Ruth Engel of Keene; Stefanie Glenn, Jaymes
Gregory and Camille Thompson, all of Fort Worth; Alicia Green of
Sims; Lorenzo Hernandez of El Paso; Keri Sternin of Aubrey; and
Jeff Winkler of McFarland, KS.
TWU’s production
is directed by Sharon Benge, chairwoman of the TWU Drama Department.
Set design is by TWU faculty member Michael Scudday, with costume
design by Maranda Mang of Hewitt. Dennis Sloan of Dallas is in charge
of prop design, and Jaymes Gregory directs sound design. Lighting
design is by Amanda Kelts of Millarville, Alberta, Canada.
The production staff
includes Jerry Dawson, technical director; stage manager Sasha Truman-McGonnell
of Fort Belknap, MT; and assistant director Kari Schouveller of
Wichita Falls.
