TWU Hosts Social Work
Workshop
4/2/04
DENTON – Social
workers can earn continuing education credits by participating in
the Sexual Orientation: Ethical Responsibilities for Social Workers
workshop. Edward Lane, Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), will
be the featured speaker May 7 at Texas Woman’s University.
Lane is self-employed
as a consultant specializing in diversity issues — primarily
gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and HIV/AIDS issues —
within the workplace. He also works as a medical social worker with
two home health agencies that cover 10 rural central Texas counties.
He will help workshop participants gain a better understanding of
stereotyping, homophobia and the differences between biological
sex, gender identity, gender roles and sexual orientation, among
other issues.
The National Association
of Social Workers/Texas has approved the workshop for three continuing
education units in ethics and the Texas State Board of Social Worker
Examiners for social work.
Registration before April
23 is $45; late registration is $55. Registration for TWU students
is $10. For more information or to register, contact the TWU Office
of Lifelong Learning at (800) 250-7808, (940) 898-3408 or visit
www.twu.edu/lifelong.
Lane earned his bachelor
of science degree in psychology from Southwestern Texas State University
and his master of social work degree from the University of Houston.
He has been employed in the social services field since 1985.
