Human Genome Project Topic Of Nursing Lectureship

DENTON "The Sequenced Genome: Implications for
Nursing" will be the topic of Elizabeth J. Thomson, MS, RN,
CGC, FAAN, during the Shell Oil Lectureship on Nov. 15, presented
by the Texas Woman's University College of Nursing-Houston Center
and Sigma Theta Tau International, Beta Beta Houston chapter. The
program will be from 2-5:30 p.m. at the TWU College of Nursing,
1130 John Freeman Boulevard, located in the Texas Medical Center,
Room MGJ 206.
Registration begins at 2 p.m. and the lecture will be from
2:30-4 p.m. A reception and poster presentations will be from
4-5:30 p.m. Registration fees are being waived courtesy of the
TWU College of Nursing. To pre-register, call (713) 794-2100 by
Nov. 8.
TWU has requested the Texas Nurses Association award 2.1
Continuing Nurse Education Type 1 contact hours to participants.
Thompson is program director for ethical, legal and social
implications research at the National Human Genome Research
Institute, National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. She
will provide an overview of the Human Genome Project and discuss
the ethical, legal and social challenges associated with advances
in human genomics and genetics research, technologies and the
availability of genetic information.
