11/23/05
DENTON –
Texas Woman’s University will screen 15 award-winning
documentary films from the Traveling Film Festival of South
Asia Nov. 28-Dec. 7. The festival is being presented as part
of TWU’s Asian Infusion Initiative, a faculty driven
project designed to educate the TWU community about issues
surrounding women, health and social justice in Asia.
The films are from
Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan and will be screened
at the TWU Denton campuses. The festival is free and open
to the public. For a schedule of film screening times and
locations, visit www.twu.edu and click on the calendar of
events or call 940-898-3352.
Additional showings
will also be scheduled in Dallas and Houston. The films vary
in length from 30 minutes to just over an hour.
“We are very
excited about bringing the festival to TWU,” Dr. Victoria
McGillin, TWU associate provost, said. “This is an opportunity
for audiences to learn more about the cultural, social and
economic forces shaping Asia and how it impacts our lives
in this increasingly global society.”
The films are from
Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Pakistan and address artistic,
cultural, political, economic, health and social issues in
the region. More information on the films and the Traveling
Film Festival of South Asia can be found at www.himalassociation.org/fsa/filmsouthasia_tfsa-04-list.htm.
