TWU To Host Seminar
For Psychologists, Therapists

DENTON —
Psychologists, marriage and family therapists, licensed professional
counselors and social workers will learn about the American
Psychological Association’s multicultural guidelines
and how they can be applied in clinical situations during
an Ethics and Enactment of Diversity seminar Feb. 11 at Texas
Woman’s University. The seminar will be held on TWU’s
Denton campus and will feature Dr. Melba J.T. Vasquez, ABPP,
and Dr. William Cross.
Participants who
complete the program will receive six continuing education
clock hours, including three in ethics, from TWU. The continuing
education credits will be accepted by the Texas State Board
of Examiners of Professional Counselors, Texas State Board
for Social Worker Examiners, Texas State Board of Examiners
of Psychologists and Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage
and Family Therapists.
Cost of the seminar
is $10 for Federation of North Texas Area Universities’
students, $35 for federation faculty, $85 before Jan. 31 for
persons not affiliated with the federation and $95 after Jan.
31 for non-federation registrants. For information or to register,

Vasquez has been
in full-time independent practice in Austin since 1991. For
13 years, she served as a psychologist at Colorado State University
and at the University of Texas-Austin Counseling and Mental
Health Center. She is a past president of the American Psychological
Association Division 35 and Division 17, and has been elected
president of the Texas Psychological Association for 2006.
Cross is a professor
and head of the doctoral program in social/personality psychology
at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York.
He serves on the editorial board for both the Sage series
on Race and Ethnic Minority Psychology and the Journal of
Multicultural Counseling and Development.
The seminar is
sponsored by the TWU Office of Lifelong Learning, TWU psychology
program and Federation of North Texas Area Universities, which
includes TWU, Texas A&M University-Commerce and University
of North Texas.
