Stuart was recently named a Woman of Distinction by the American
Association of University Women (AAUW) of Texas at its annual
convention.

was one of 100 female leaders from around the state honored

and communities by the AAUW of Texas. Chancellor Stuart was

an $846,524 gift from the estate of Ima Jean Boenker of Fort
Worth, a TWU alumna. The gift will be used to establish the
Ima Jean Boenker Scholarship, which will provide up to $8,000

Luncheon on April 26.

DALLAS — The Hoblitzelle Foundation has awarded $500,000 to Texas Woman’s University for its new T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center.
TWU’s new T. Boone Pickens Institute of Health Sciences-Dallas Center combines TWU’s Parkland and Presbyterian sites into a dynamic campus-in-one building at the Parkland location. Groundbreaking for the 190,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for 2009, with a planned opening of the building in 2011.

Patsy and Fred Patterson of Denton and the Denton LULAC Council
#4366 will be honored for their exceptional service to the
community and to Texas Woman’s University as the 2008
TWU Founders’ Awards recipients.
The awards will
be presented at the annual TWU Founders’ Day Award Scholarship
Luncheon to be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 3 in Hubbard
Hall on TWU’s Denton campus.
Tickets for the
event are $30 per person. Patron seats are available for $75.
Benefactor tables for eight are available for $600. For information

Board awards TWU nearly $250,000 to address nursing shortage

— Texas Woman’s University — already the
largest educator of new nurses in Texas — will offer
a weekend nursing program to help alleviate the nursing shortage,
thanks to a grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board (THECB.)
TWU will use the
$249,777 grant from the THECB to partner with the Baylor University
Medical Center at Dallas to create the “Reinventing
Nursing Education: An Education and Practice Partnership.”

Drama presents ‘Proof’ — 2/6/08
DENTON — The Texas Woman’s University Drama Program brings David Auburn’s award-winning drama “Proof” to the stage of the Redbud Theater Complex Feb. 28 through March 2.
Performances will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 29 and March 1; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2. The Redbud Theater Complex is located on the northwest side of historic Hubbard Hall on TWU’s Denton campus. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. receives $2.2 million from Deiker estate for student scholarships

scholarships to help meet their educational goals thanks to
a $2.2 million gift from the estate of Helen Haddix Deiker
of Fort Worth, a past president of the TWU Former Students
Association. The gift to the TWU Foundation will be used to
establish the Helen Haddix Deiker and Robert W. Deiker Endowment
Fund.

graduate student receives national award for research

Terri L. White, a nursing doctoral candidate at Texas Woman’s
University, was one of two students from the U.S. and Canada
to receive a Graduate Student Recognition Award from the Association
of Rheumatology Health Professionals (ARHP.) Ms. White received

Healthcare ranks TWU-Houston’s HCA program as 4th largest

HOUSTON
– Modern Healthcare, the weekly magazine for
hospitals and healthcare industry executives, recently ranked
the master of health care administration program at Texas
Woman’s University’s Institute of Health Sciences-Houston
Center the 4th largest in the nation.
The rankings were
tallied using the total number of students enrolled, based
on July 2007 reports. TWU’s Houston program tied with
the University of Pennsylvania as 4th largest program with
160 students.

— Texas Woman’s University continues its role
as a leader in promoting math and science careers for women
by presenting the “Expanding Your Horizons™ in
Science and Mathematics” conference for middle school
girls on Saturday, Feb. 16.
Young women in
sixth, seventh and eighth grade are eligible to attend the
biannual conference, which runs from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
on the TWU Denton campus. The registration fee is $10 per
person and the event is open to the first 350 girls who apply.
