TWU Offers Little Chapel Wedding Package

TWU
Student To Intern In Parliament 10/16/03
DENTON — Texas
Woman’s University sophomore and Dallas native Elise Owolo
will spend her spring as an intern in the British Parliament.
The government and legal
studies major is one of three TWU students who will participate
in the study abroad program at Harlaxton College in England in spring
2004. Owolo is the only TWU student and one of only four Harlaxton
students to receive an internship in Parliament for the semester.
“I feel empowered
by the internship,” Owolo said. “Of all the students
who applied, only four were selected and all four are women.”
Dr. Jim Alexander, chair
of the department of history and government, describes Ms. Owolo
as a bright young woman with a promising future.
“She has an excellent
record as a student and demonstrated a high degree of intellectual
curiosity,” Dr. Alexander said. “She’s also demonstrated
a great deal of courage by even applying for such an internship.
This will be an exciting endeavor for her.”
“I’ve always wanted to study abroad, and a TWU student
who went to Harlaxton two years ago told me about the internship
and encouraged me to apply,” Owolo said. “I’m
excited. I hope to grow intellectually from the experience.”
After graduating from
TWU, Owolo plans to attend law school, practice law, be a motivational
speaker encouraging students to set higher educational goals and,
eventually, be a judge in the Dallas area.
