Neill Honored By ASHA

DENTON — Dr. Kweethia Neill, associate professor and chair of health studies at Texas Woman’s University, is the American School Health Association 2003 Distinguished Service Award recipient. The award was given to recognize her service to the organization over the past decade.

Since 1994, she has served as a nutrition adviser, answering members’ questions on nutrition in schools. She was an ASHA delegate to the National Steering Committee for Childhood Obesity, Office of Women’s Health from 1999-2001. She served as the ASHA delegate to the National Nutrition Summit in 2000 and the Health Schools Summit in 2002. In 1995-97 and again in 2000-02, she served as ASHA Council for Food and Nutrition chairperson and secretary for the council in 1998-99.

“Dr. Neill’s ‘can-do’ attitude combined with her expertise in nutrition, health education and school food services have been a unique combination that has advanced programming for ASHA,” the organization stated.
