Brownwood Native Receives Mayes Scholarship


DENTON — Brownwood native Ashley Dudley is the first recipient of a $2,000 Dorothy and Wendell Mayes Endowed Scholarship at Texas Woman’s University. Ms. Dudley, a 2003 graduate of Brownwood High School, is a freshman and nutrition major at TWU.

Mayes Endowed Scholarship recipients must be graduates of Brownwood High School, a full-time student at TWU and have a 3.0 or better grade-point-average. The TWU General Scholarship Committee selects the recipient.

The Dorothy and Wendell Mayes Endowed Scholarship was established by Jane Ellen Jamar Fain and Wendell Mayes Jr. in memory of their parents. Mrs. Mayes attended the College of Industrial Arts (now TWU). Wendell Mayes Sr. was a member and former chairman of the TWU Board of Regents.
