TWU Nursing Faculty Receives $10,000 Research Grant
3/25/03
HOUSTON Dr. Ann Malecha, assistant professor of nursing
in the College of Nursing at Texas Woman's University-Houston
Center, is the recipient of the 2003 American Association of
Occupational Health Nurses Foundation Research Grant. One nurse
researcher receives the $10,000 grant each year.
Dr. Malecha's research study is titled "Effectiveness of
Screening for Intimate Partner Violence in the Workplace: A Study
with Occupational Health Nurses." During the study, a group
of occupational health nurses will be trained to screen for
intimate partner violence at their work site and measure
outcomes. A control group of nurses also will be included in the
study.
Dr. Malecha worked on her grant proposal as a protégé
through TWU's Chancellor's Research Fellows Program. Her mentor
in the program was Dr. Judith McFarlane, professor of nursing at
TWU's Houston Center. The Chancellor's Research Fellows Program
pairs TWU faculty who have strong potential for obtaining
external funding for research with mentors who have a successful
record of research publication and grants from federal agencies
or other sources.
