TWU hosts Fifth Annual Hunger Banquet Nov. 15
11/11/05
DENTON —
Texas Woman’s University will host its Fifth Annual
Hunger Banquet, which dramatizes the distribution of resources
and wealth in the world, Nov. 15 beginning at 5 p.m. in room
207 of the Student Union, located at the southwest corner
of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive on the Denton campus.
The event is open
to the public and participants are asked to donate a canned
good or $1 to attend, though donations are not required. For
information on the event, call (940) 898-3593.
As participants
arrive, they will be given biographies of persons they will
represent and be divided into social classes. The lowest social
class will sit on the floor and eat sparingly, and the highest
class will sit at a table and eat a full meal. The purpose
is to help Hunger Banquet participants experience a simulation
of world hunger.
The event is sponsored
by the TWU Center for Student Development, the Campus Activities
Board, Habitat for Humanity International, Aramark Dining
Services, the TWU Counseling Center and Helping Hands, a student
community service organization.
The Hunger Banquet
is one of many activities scheduled at TWU to mark National
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, which is Nov. 13 -
10.
