TWU Offers Little Chapel Wedding Package

TWU To Hold Memorial
Service For Gertrude Gibson

DENTON — Texas
Woman’s University will say farewell to long-time friend Gertrude
Gibson with a public memorial service on Sunday, March 21 at 2 p.m.
in Hubbard Hall. Ms. Gibson, a TWU benefactor and retired employee,
died Feb. 22.
Ms. Gibson began her
career at TWU in 1934 and retired in 1987. During her time at TWU,
she served as director of development, worked in the Dean of Women
(now Student Life), admissions and registrar’s offices, as
well as traveled throughout Texas and adjoining states promoting
TWU. She was a graduate of McKinney High School, Baylor University
and TWU.
She was involved in and
honored by numerous civic organizations. Her organization memberships
included the Denton County Historical Society, Denton County 4-H
Club Committee, National Home Fashions League, Heard Natural Science
Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary, Texas Farm Bureau, Beautify Texas
Council and Wild Basin Institute for Environmental Studies.
In 1983, she received
the Friend of 4-H Award from Denton County 4-H. She received the
TWU President’s Award in 1985 for her part in establishing
the first Texas Wildflower Day. In 1987, she helped found the Denton
Beautification Committee, which evolved into Keep Denton Beautiful.
