Press Club of Dallas Names TWU Student Top Scholar

DENTON — Texas Woman's University student Kimberly Gay of Denton recently was awarded the top scholarship from the Press Club of Dallas Foundation — a $2,000 scholarship in the name of the Dallas Times Herald.

Gay, a senior mass communications major at TWU, also is a candidate for the organization's Katie Awards, which award excellence in journalism in a five-state area. The Press Club's annual scholarship banquet will be held in November.

Gay's essay, titled, “My Journey,” spoke of her goal to become a university journalism professor while also working as a news reporter.

Gay writes for the TWU student newspaper, The Lasso, and is the newsletter editor for the TWU chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society. She has been named to the National Dean's List each semester since 1999.

Gay, a 1988 graduate of Denton High School, is the daughter of John and Bobbie Gay of Denton.

The Press Club of Dallas promotes professional journalism and related fields through education, social and charitable initiatives. The Press Club Foundation is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to raise funds for journalism scholarships.
