TWU enrollment continues to grow
9/15/05
DENTON –
Texas Woman’s University’s fall 2005 enrollment
has reached an all-time record of 11,258 students. This 4.7
percent increase continues four consecutive years of enrollment
growth at TWU.
Most important,
TWU’s total semester credit hours are up 4.6 percent
from 104,642 last fall to 109,505 hours — also a record.
Student credit hours, not headcount, determine the university’s
state funding. All numbers are based on 12th class day data.
The previous enrollment
record of 10,750 was set in fall 2004.
“Our continued enrollment growth is due to the diligent
efforts of faculty and staff as they implement the university’s
strategic enrollment plan,” said TWU Chancellor and
President Dr. Ann Stuart. “Four consecutive years of
increasing enrollment is no small accomplishment, and I congratulate
everyone for their hard work.”
Expanded programs,
admissions outreach efforts, improved processing of applications,
enhanced marketing efforts and closer ties with high schools
and community colleges are elements of the strategic enrollment
plan led by Dr. Stuart.
Enrollment at the
Denton campus is 9,100 students, up from 8,463 in fall 2004.
Enrollment at the Dallas centers is 912 students and Houston
center enrollment is 1,246.
“Consistently
increasing our enrollment is a positive indicator of the excellence
of the academic programs at TWU,” said Dr. Carolyn Gunning,
interim provost. “It’s exciting to continue to
see growth at TWU, particularly with our undergraduate students.”
Undergraduate enrollment
increased to 6,214 students, a 6.7 percent increase from 5,826
in fall 2004. Graduate enrollment grew to 5,041 from 4,924
in fall 2004.
Twelfth-day preliminary
enrollment data is issued by TWU’s Office of Institutional
Research. Official enrollment figures will be available in
December after approval by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating
Board.
