TWU Schedules Counseling Workshop
4/7/03
DENTON — A solution-focused approach to academic, behavioral and emotional
issues in today’s classrooms will be presented in "Counseling Toward
Solutions," a workshop scheduled Friday, May 9 at Texas Woman’s University.
The workshop is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. in room 301 of the
Administration Conference Tower, located on Administration Drive on TWU’s
Denton campus. The registration fee is $35 prior to April 25 and $45 after that
date. Registration and additional information are available online at www.twu.edu/lifelong
or by calling (940) 898-3408 or (800) 250-7808.
Dr. Linda Metcalf, a licensed professional counselor and licensed marriage and
family therapist, will be the conference speaker. Metcalf has presented workshops
on solution-focused brief therapy both nationally and internationally, and has
authored several books on the subject.
Dr. Metcalf is president of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy
and currently is the Safe and Drug Free Coordinator for the Mansfield school
district. The workshop will include new concepts developed from her current
work in the district, which has lowered the dropout rate and lessened special
education referrals.
A total of three contact hours or .3 continuing education units will be awarded
to each participant who successfully completes the workshop.
The workshop is sponsored by TWU’s Department of Family Science, Student
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the Office of Lifelong Learning.
