Brown To Perform Organ
Recital At TWU
9/17/04
DENTON — Music
from current American composers as well as international artists
will be featured in an organ recital presented by Texas Woman’s
University professor Dr. Thomas K. Brown.
The concert is scheduled
for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, in the Margo Jones Performance
Hall, located at Oakland and Sawyer streets on TWU’s Denton
campus. Admission is free. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.
“What I like, especially,
about this concert is the contrast of styles, blends and textures
provided by both the organ and the organ with the individual instruments,”
Brown said. He will be accompanied by TWU music faculty members
Dr. Pamela Youngblood on flute, Garry Evans on clarinet and Michael
Harcrow on horn.
Works by American composers
include “Pastorale for Clarinet and Organ” by Peter
Mathews, who has composed more than 160 works including a large
number of choral pieces. The “Albarda,” from Flores
del Desierto (Tangos for Organ) by Pamela Decker, was inspired by
a wild desert flower. Moonyeen Albrecht’s Four Psalms for
Flute and Organ was premiered in 1986 and is considered one of the
more outstanding compositions in the genre.
