TWU Professor Named President-Elect Of Texas Folklore
Society

DENTON Dr. Phyllis Bridges, professor of English at
Texas Woman's University, was elected vice president/president
elect of the Texas Folklore Society during the organization's
March 30 annual meeting in Victoria.
Dr. Bridges, a resident of Denton, will serve as vice
president/program chair for 2003 and as president for 2004. She
has served on the board of directors of the Texas Folklore
Society and has published numerous articles on folklore in
professional journals.
With more than 900 members, TFS is one of the oldest, largest
and most diverse professional societies in Texas. The society has
met annually since 1911, except for interruptions during war
years.
TFS holds its annual meeting in a different Texas location
each year. The 2003 meeting will be held in Kerrville, and the
2004 meeting is scheduled for McKinney.
Each year TFS publishes a book to record and preserve Texas
folklore.
