DENTON — Dr. Phyllis Bridges, professor of English at Texas Woman's University, was elected vice president/president elect of the Texas Folklore Society during the organization's March 30 annual meeting in Victoria.

Dr. Bridges, a resident of Denton, will serve as vice president/program chair for 2003 and as president for 2004. She has served on the board of directors of the Texas Folklore Society and has published numerous articles on folklore in professional journals.

With more than 900 members, TFS is one of the oldest, largest and most diverse professional societies in Texas. The society has met annually since 1911, except for interruptions during war years.

TFS holds its annual meeting in a different Texas location each year. The 2003 meeting will be held in Kerrville, and the 2004 meeting is scheduled for McKinney.

Each year TFS publishes a book to record and preserve Texas folklore.
